Probably the most relaxing way to spend a morning or afternoon in Trinidad, this tour allows for an approximate two and a half hours on the beautiful beach at Maracas Bay. The drive leads you through the residential areas of St Clair and Maraval, close to the capital, Port of Spain, before continuing up to the scenic North Coast Road. Along the way you can admire the stunning view of the Paramin Hills to the west with their plantations of herbs and spices, and thick rainforest to the east. Upon reaching the Caribbean Sea, you can take in the most spectacular panoramic view of the ocean. This tour starts with an overview of the capital city, Port of Spain, which includes a visit to the bustling Independence Square with its’ imposing Central Bank and Brian Lara Promenade, the surrounding shopping streets, Parliament Building, Supreme Court and historic Woodford Square. Also the Queens Park Savannah – known as ‘the world’s largest roundabout.’ This 200-acre recreational park is lined with exotic trees and interesting colonial mansions with intricate architectural designs. The Magnificent Seven are the finest of these. After taking in the beauty of downtown Port of Spain, we'll drive through one of the northern suburb called Maraval. This takes us to the North Coast road that leads to Maracas Bay. Just before approaching the bay we’d come to a lookout point. Here is where we take in the panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding bays and even enjoy local snacks and freshly seasoned fruit, locally called “chow.” Next, we’ll arrive at the most popular beach in Trinidad, Maracas Bay, which is surrounded by lush green rainforest covered mountains, with a sandy beach lined with coconut trees. Then onto Fort George for a Birds Eye View of the City..Formerly called La Vigie, Fort George was part of a complex of fortifications, the building of which began in 1804 under the direction of the then British Governor, Brigadier-General Sir Thomas Hislop. The fortifications consisted of sea defences and a series of supporting batteries: the York, Princess Charlotte, Abercromby and Cambridge on the lower slopes and the Cumberland to the north above the Fort. Considered impregnable, it was the major defensive position in the island, but never to experience military action. In times of rumours of the war, merchants of Port of Spain would store their records and valuables at the fort. Fort George ceased to be a military establishment in 1846. A signal station was established there and continued operation until November 1964. A Drive through the RainForest that ends with a Visit to Maracas Bay. It is located on the north side of the island, an hour's mountainous drive from the capital city of Port of Spain via the North Coast Road. Unlike many of the northern beaches of Trinidad, Maracas Bay is protected by a deep bay.
