Both islands have good-value guesthouses and hotels. These are concentrated in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Crown Point in Tobago, which has other clusters around Buccoo/Mt Irvine, Castara, Speyside, Charlotteville and Scarborough. Aside from Carnival season in Port of Spain, when rates rise astronomically, Trinidad & Tobago is less expensive than elsewhere in the Caribbean, with budget options from US$40 a night; rates are often negotiable in the low or shoulder seasons (roughly April to early December).
The following prices refer to a double room with bathroom during high season (December to April). A 10% service charge and a 15% value-added tax (VAT) can add 35% more to your bill. Most advertised accommodations rates include the tax and service charge, but not always.
