Welcome to Grande Riviere
The closest the northeast gets to a resort town, Grande Riviere is still a far cry from most Caribbean holiday spots. It’s a quiet and peaceful place, rich in natural attractions, from a stunning beach where turtles lay eggs to the surrounding rainforest, studded with waterfalls and hiking trails and offering plenty of good birdwatching. A few small-scale hotels have sprung up to cater to lovers of the outdoors, and the village is a fantastic place to get away from it all, but the big draw are the legions of leatherback turtles that lay their eggs on the beach here between March and August. Grand Riviere is one of the world's major nesting beaches, with hundreds of turtles laying here in peak season; local guides lead turtle-watching trips.
