Is it possible (without going crazy) to go from Ninh Binh to Hanoi then Hanoi to Mai Chau in the same day or it's wiser to sleep in Hanoi and get to Mai Chau the next day ? I'm just trying to avoid one more sleepover in Hanoi. If it's hard by bus, what approximatly would be the price for private or semi-private transport ? Once again, thanks for your help
Hi, I will be travelling alone through Vietnam during February 2016
The current plan is to fly into either HCMC or Hanoi and go north or south via Da Nang over a two/three week period. My question is do any females have experience travelling alone through the country and what are the things to watch out for?
I was thinking of taking the night train on a thursday night and arriving in Lao Cai early friday. My goal is to do the 2 markets, Can Cau on the saturday and Bac Ha on the sunday, then stay probably 4-5 days (or more if needed) in Sapa to explore around. Should i already base myself in Sapa on my arrival on the friday morning, or should i go straight to Can Cau to make sure i am really early at the market, before the big crowdd (or is there always a big crowd ?). If i go straight to Can Cau…

We can also give you a lot of information where to go.
A couple of things:
1. Does anyone have recent information (costs, time etc.) on getting a visa for Vietnam in Nanning, China, & then travelling overland to Vietnam?
2. I've done the 'Visa on Arrival' before, but now I'm reading that you can apply online & have the approval letter sent to an Embassy or Consulate (or something like this) but nowhere I've looked can I find the information about whether this means I can cross overland having obtained this via an Embassy or…
How does this itinerary sound? I am thinking of trying to get a guide when I'm in the Mekong Delta area, it seems it will make the time there easier. I want to only see the southern portion, because of time and money. As well as getting some relaxation in and some natural sights.

I will be traveling to Vietnam for two weeks in May and wanted to see if anyone had any special recommendations before I leave.
I will be traveling to Saigon, Hoi An, and Da Nang over the course of two weeks. I've done a good amount of research on each city and have planned out a pretty loose schedule of specific things that I would like to cover at each destination. If anyone has any specific tips or wouldn't mind sharing some of their favorite experiences in any of the cities I…
I'm at the initial stages of planning a two week trip and I'm considering flying into HK for a couple of days, traveling by train through tea country with a couple days stay, and then onward by train to Hanoi. This would be in July/August.
I know the weather is hot and very humid, 30C/90F or above every day, with downpours once or twice a day. Just how bad is it? Is it really best to find somewhere else, or have people over-hyped the typhoon season? Will it substantially affect my…
I am planning a trip to Vietnam with my wife and toddler (who will be 18 months) for January next year and would love to hear some advice from those who have been with kids or just know the country well enough. We've travelled extensively pre child and have already had one trip with our little one and he was a very good traveller. However, this time the distances and amount of travel will be a bit longer and he a bit older and more mobile. We want to do it at a very relaxed pace and not…
