Venice - Bled - Budapest

Hi Fellow Travelers

I'm trying to find the quickest way to get from Venice to Bled. From Bled we'll be continuing onto Budapest (haven't even started researching this leg yet!) so this is a one way leg.

From my research it seems that driving will be the fastest at less than 3 hours however, it seems that hiring a car is difficult (happy to receive advice about this) so looking at public transport.

I've found that there is a transfer service but it's 5.5 hours

Quick day trip from Ljubljana -> Austria (anywhere) -> Bled ?

Hello!

I will be in Slovenia for a conference next week, and I have a package to mail to Austria. I understand it would be fastest for me to send it from an Austrian post office (so it wouldn't need to be held up at customs, etc.).

I arrive at the Ljubljana airport at 10:30 a.m. on a weekday; is there a way for me to get from there to any town in Austria with a post office on that same day, and then return to Bled that night?

I checked the train schedules, and it looks like there's a train…

Family trip

Hi,

I'm looking for some feedback on my itinerary for a week in Slovenia.
We're planning to go with our son who will be 15 months in June.
We're not sure whether to fly in and out of Trieste or Ljubljana and visit the following
Piran 2 days
Skocjan caves (one does the tour while other stays with baby then swap)
Ljubljana-1 day
Bled-1 day
Lake Bohnij-2days?

Bovec sounds lovely but as we'll have a little one with us we won't be able to do any white water rafting.
Do we have the balance right? I…

Triglav National Park Trails & Huts

We are planning a trip to Slovenia in August, and are hoping to do some day hikes, possibly with an overnight hut stay, in the Triglav National Park. We're traveling with our three kids (12, 10, & 6). We were thinking of getting into the mountains from the Vogel Tram, and then hiking out from there. We would enjoy hearing if there are specific trails to take, huts to visit, etc. Also, if there are any English guidebooks that focus on hiking in the area the information would be much…

Soca Valley - best route option?

Hi, just tentatively planning a Slovenia holiday for September and time is tight.
If planing to visit the Soca Valley are we best advised to drive from Bled, via Kranjska Gora and Soca and on to, say, Kobarid, or to come the other way, from Ljubljana via Idrija and Tolmin?
Both routes appear to take 2 hours so I'm asking for what is the most scenic.
And after Kobarid (or is some other destination better?) we head to Venice.
Again, is the best route here the direct road via Udine, or head south…

Getting to Bled from Ljubljana

Hi,

Is it possible to get to Bled by public transport from Ljubljana for a day trip? Is it also doable in the winter as I am planning to go next month?

Are there any places near by to the capital where there is some easy walking that can be reached on public transport? I will be alone so it needs to be somewhere safe. Hopefully there will be some snow as well.

Taxis at Ljubljana airport

I had two trips to Ljubljana this year and the same thing with the taxis happened twice.

I took a taxi from the airport to the city centre, and each time it took about 35 mins and cost about €45 (each time ca 11am on a weekday).
I took a taxi back from the city centre to the airport, and each time it took about 20 mins and cost €30 (each time ca 9am on a weekday). We spent much less time on stop-start roads with traffic lights than on the way in.

The exact point in the city centre of…

Looking for advice about moving to Maribor

Hello Everyone,

I am a Canadian dual citizen with Italian citizenship looking to move to Europe. I have really good friends who live in Ljubljana and they have told me the rent in Maribor can be as cheap as 150 Euro a month for a bachelor apartment.

Is this true? If yes what would be the best way to do some apartment hunting?

Any advice for things to consider would be great. I am a Tour Director and away from home 5 months out of the year so im looking for a cheap, but cool city to move to.
