Triglav National Park Trails & Huts

We are planning a trip to Slovenia in August, and are hoping to do some day hikes, possibly with an overnight hut stay, in the Triglav National Park. We're traveling with our three kids (12, 10, & 6). We were thinking of getting into the mountains from the Vogel Tram, and then hiking out from there. We would enjoy hearing if there are specific trails to take, huts to visit, etc. Also, if there are any English guidebooks that focus on hiking in the area the information would be much…

Soca Valley - best route option?

Hi, just tentatively planning a Slovenia holiday for September and time is tight.
If planing to visit the Soca Valley are we best advised to drive from Bled, via Kranjska Gora and Soca and on to, say, Kobarid, or to come the other way, from Ljubljana via Idrija and Tolmin?
Both routes appear to take 2 hours so I'm asking for what is the most scenic.
And after Kobarid (or is some other destination better?) we head to Venice.
Again, is the best route here the direct road via Udine, or head south…

Getting to Bled from Ljubljana

Hi,

Is it possible to get to Bled by public transport from Ljubljana for a day trip? Is it also doable in the winter as I am planning to go next month?

Are there any places near by to the capital where there is some easy walking that can be reached on public transport? I will be alone so it needs to be somewhere safe. Hopefully there will be some snow as well.

Taxis at Ljubljana airport

I had two trips to Ljubljana this year and the same thing with the taxis happened twice.

I took a taxi from the airport to the city centre, and each time it took about 35 mins and cost about €45 (each time ca 11am on a weekday).
I took a taxi back from the city centre to the airport, and each time it took about 20 mins and cost €30 (each time ca 9am on a weekday). We spent much less time on stop-start roads with traffic lights than on the way in.

The exact point in the city centre of…

Looking for advice about moving to Maribor

Hello Everyone,

I am a Canadian dual citizen with Italian citizenship looking to move to Europe. I have really good friends who live in Ljubljana and they have told me the rent in Maribor can be as cheap as 150 Euro a month for a bachelor apartment.

Is this true? If yes what would be the best way to do some apartment hunting?

Any advice for things to consider would be great. I am a Tour Director and away from home 5 months out of the year so im looking for a cheap, but cool city to move to.

Volunteering in Slovenia

Hi fellow travellers!

I would like to spend three weeks in October as a volunteer in Slovenia.
Anyone knows for a good place? I would like to be in a company of other volunteers, preferably somewhere in a beautiful nature (I hope I am not asking for too much :)

Cheers,
Anna

14 days in October, Hiking, sightseeing

My brother and I are going to Slovenia for two weeks at the start of October this year. We plan to do a lot of day hikes, and maybe an overnight somewhere in a hut or hostel if we can plan for that in a return or round trip. We will have a hire-car and have not made any hotel or hostel bookings.

We are fit in our young 40's from Scotland, and know that type of environment quite well. Also we have been in the French and Swiss Alps for many day hikes at altitude - but never in winter. We can…

Is this itinerary doable?

We have decided to include a few days in Slovenia from our original plan of visiting Croatia.

Would appreciate advice on following points:
1. Klagenfurt to Lake Bled - as we arrive after noon the only options appear to be to catch the train to Lecse Bled via Villach at 14.02, taking almost 4 hours all up with connecting time and costing 80AUD (for 2 pax). An alternative we've seen is the Transfer Bled service from Klagenfurt to Bled for 89Euros and taking just over an hour which has its…
