Hello everyone ,

I'm planning to land in St.Petersburg in the end of June and travell from there to Ulan Bataar(Mongolia) via Siberia by trains.
I have about 3 weeks for this route.
Planning to do a few days in St.Petersburg and Moscow, and in lake Baikal.
Would be happy to get information and Ideas from people who have travelled there or know the places.
Any Ideas for other places to stop travelling in? Would it be possible to travell with a tent? Tips for travelling by train in Russia?

I am getting a Russian visa for a trip to the Altai at the beginning of July. The visa is for 30 days and I will have from 13th-25th July free in Russia, if I want. Would a trip to the Kola Peninsula be good? How bad are the mosquitoes up there at that time of year? I don't mind a few but if we're talking clouds of them, that would discourage me. Or any other ideas of what to see and do with the time? I've been to St. Petersburg and Moscow before, although a visit to the Kremlin is probably on…

Hello,
I always wondered - why foreigners confine themselves to these capitals.
As a final destination they seem to be the best choice but what about an another starting point?

Tobolsk (Tobolsk Kremlin is the only stone citadel beyond the Ural Mountains) - Yekaterinburg (the oldest wooden statue in the world - Shigirsky Idol) - Kazan (Svijazhsk - an atmospheric open air museum with artisan shops).

So, that's the way.

Will be passing through Astrakhan next Aug/Sept on my way from Belarus to Georgia (own vehicle). I would like to visit the Volga delta region, however I think the FSB classify some/all of it as a 'border region' requiring a permit, is this correct?

Also is it classified as some form of an ecological reserve requiring additional permit?

I would prefer to visit independantly, not as part of a guided tour, so will need to organise permits shortly if required.

Thanks for your help.

Hello there.
We are two guys from Switzerland who want to ride with the bicycle from Helsinki over St. Petersburg to Tallinn in July.
We have only 4 days to ride to St. Petersburg, then we have our Hotel booked in St. Petersburg, so the only Possibility to ride is through the Border at Virolahti - Torfyanovka.
So after the Border crossing we have to take the M10 to vyborg and from there to St. Petersburg.

Visa is organized, so no Problem about that.

Is it even possible to take the M10 with…

Looking to pre-book tickets for August, 2015 on this train route: Moscow-Irkutsk-Ulan Bator-Beijing. Is it true there is only one train per week from Ulan Bator to Beijing? That is how it appears on www.expresstorussia.com. Thanks, John

Hello,

I have read on some travel websites that if you go to Russia with your kids, you should bring along their birth certificates.
Does anyone know if this is really the case, as I would then need to get an official translation.

Thanks for your help,
