Yangoon to Chang Mai direct via Air?

Hi I was wondering if its possible to book tickets on the net direct from Yangoon to Chang Mai? I understand its easy to go via Bangkok but i'd ranther not have to go indirectly.

Thai Air Does it indirectly for about 600 aussie dollars whilst Air Asia also does in indirectly for a lot cheaper BUT it still means i have to fly via BKK.

Conversely what do people think my changes are organising a flight directly once in Yangoon (to Chang Mai)? I'm arriving in Yangoon in June 6th 2008 and I'm keen on flying out to Chang Mai on June 10th. I've previously had the bad experience in Cambodia where I was stuck in Phnom Phen and couldnt get any tickets to Siem Reap and once again in Siem Reap couldnt find any tickets to Laos in my timeframe (had to spend a few extra days at Angkor). Do people think I'd encounter the same problem in Yangoon? If not do you think i'll be paying through my teeth to get a flight out?

Air Mandalay is your friend. :-) According to their current website, they fly on Sunday and Thursday from Yangon to Chiang Mai. They use turbo-props so they're a little slower but will get you to Chiang Mai quicker than Thai Airways. Once upon a time, Thai Airways also had direct flights but not anymore.

As per #1... Air Mandalay is the way to go.... June is low season and they have, as stated above, 2 or 3 flights per week... Buying the ticket in Yangon will be easy and most likely even cheaper than buying it on-line.

My guess is that a one way flight with Air Mandalay, Yangon to Chiang Mai at the moment, is around USD 100.00.. perhaps a little more.

You should be able to get a flight on June 11, 13 and 15 (June 10 is a Tuesday and unless they change their schedule.. there will not be a flight on that day).

Try Sunfar travel agency. It's on 39th street between Mahabandoola and Merchant Streets. Very efficient and cheap. Any hotel will be able to get you the phone number.
