Wreck Beach Vendors

I wonder how much money selling their beer down there. They must break even. Anyone know?

I imagine they get quite territorial with each other.

If you hustle you can make some cash. I had a couple of roommates back in the day who worked Wreck (long enough ago that the ladies behind Zizanie were working the beach as well).

What are beers at Wreck selling for these days?

I don't think it's an easy way to make money. Getting the beer down there and keeping it cold would be a lot of work unless they had a boat, but then that adds to the overhead. Also they risk having the beer confiscated and the hassle of guarding their inventory.

I haven't been there for about 5 or 6 years, but last time I was there they were charging about double the cost at the liquor store, and much less than the price at a bar. So in other words they were making perhaps almost $2/beer profit. Considering they probably sell over 100 beer a day it's not a bad profit. Yeah lugging the cases down is a pain, but not that bad. They also carry down a big cooler filled with ice to keep it cold. Seemed to be a good gig when I saw it.

I just quit going when the number of vendors started outnumbering the sunbathers around 1990.

me and my friends decided that that would be a good business thing and tried selling beer on wreck beach about 15 years ago.

we all got very drunk in the process. Us and many of our new found friends. We broke even.
