Wonderful Mongolian Partners

My son and I recently circumnavigated Eastern Mongolia using a jeep and driver. We had a fabulous trip and are keen to share highlights. We took the advice of one of the Thorntree posters and found Mejet and Bilegt who run a family run tour company out of UB, called Mongolia Tours. (www.mongoliatours.org) The best part about this tour company is that they will customize a tour for you so you are not hindered by set dates. Bilegt does all the arranging and Mejet may be your driver. They helped us buy food, checked on our progress each day and even did laundry for us when we got back home. Everything was just as they said it would be - they are very efficient and trustworthy people. They also run set tours. Highly recommended!

We also stayed at Dorjsuren's Homestay while in Dadal. They had just erected a ger in the yard and we were the first to stay there. Dorjsuren and his family are very hospitable people. With him, we went all over Dadal - he even took us to the local dance! Fantastic experience especially for Naadam!

Also took a South Gobi Short Tour with Ayan Trails (www.toursmongolia.com). Again this company was efficient and helpful. By this point I was a single woman travelling alone. The driver and guide were very professional and the transportation was reliable. All activities were carefully planned and executed without a hitch. Accommodations and meals were excellent.

While the infrastructure in Mongolia is at times difficult, it is a fabulous country filled with generous people. Don't hesitate to plan a trip there.
