Wild Camping Beara Way

Country forums / UK & Ireland / Ireland

Hi

Was thinking about walking the Beara Way in Kerry/Cork. Does anybody know if it is possible to do the way wild camping. Would pref like to wild camp most nights. Are there suitable locations within easy enough reach of the way, and has anybody done this before? Are there any issues with landowners in this area?

Thanks very much

If you don't have luck here with your question, try one of the online walking forums. I don't know the Beara way from experience but I understand that part of Ireland is isolated enough that in practice you won't have much trouble, if you avoid fires, go to bed and rise with the sun, and move on every day.

you'll be o.k. with camping in fields. however its very important you check with the land owner of where you wish to camp if you cannot camp where you wish he might be able to redirect you. there could be a wild bull or he plans on spraying manure, releasing cattle ext. The best thing is to camp only where you get permission, but in genereall most landowners appreciate being consulted. It should be fine as long as you don't light fires and move on.
