Which is the best Eurail Global Pass?Interest forums / Travel on a shoestring
Hi I'm taking 3 months to travel from Italy to the UK then flying down to Spain for the last 2 weeks of my trip. i was planning on getting the 3 month global pass. But i would prefer to save a little money. What do you all know about the 15 days in 2 months global pass? Is that a good option? Let me know! Thanks.
It really depends on how far and how often you plan to travel. If you're planning to zig-zag your way throughout Europe, going from capital to capital, traveling far and often, the rail passes can be helpful. If you're just moving slowly in short little steps, the rail passes probably don't make sense. Chances are, you're probably doing something in between. What you need to do is to roughly sketch out your planned route, add up the cost of the major train legs of your trip, and compare that to the cost of the rail pass. Check out www.bahn.de for schedule (and some costs, especially for German trains), www.seat61.com and www.ricksteves, which has a nice section on rail passes and a time/cost rail map. Dave | 1
All rail passes only work if you use them to the max. Obviously if you are taking 3 months from Italy to the UK, you are planning to go slow. Any pass is likely to be a waste of money. Rail passes tend to make you move farther and faster than you might otherwise do. I consider that a bad thing. | 2
