Where to stay on the coast

My friend is coming to visit me in October and were wanting to go to the coast. Does anyone have any suggestions for places to stay? Were two girls, mid twenties and looking to relax during the day, but have fun at night. Wed like to go out and socialize! Ive heard Malindi is fun but thought that Mombasa might have a bit more going on. Suggestions for mid range hotels/resorts would be much appreciated!

For an area with loads of bars, restaurants and clubs plus the bonus of being close to Mombasa choose Nyali or Bamburi. Maybe a hotel such as Travellers. You have bars such as Pirates, Il Covo, Bob's, Cheers, Clubs Tembo, Splendid, Black Havanna, Masters plus a lovely Indian restaurant at the Indiana Hotel. Don't be tempted to go out walking at night. Book a reliable recommended taxi to pick you up and drop you off. We use a guy called Ezekiel - newish clean car. Mombasa mobile - 0733 782946.

Diani Beach would be ideal. It is the most developed of the coastal resorts with plenty of bars and good nightlife. Reasonably priced accomodation is plentiful and it is near Mombasa.
