Where to go for two nights away from the resort

Hi,

My husband and I are going to Jamaica for his sisters wedding. We are staying in an all inclusive resort near Runaway Bay. We are not resort people so would like to sneak away for a couple of days. We can probably only manage one or two nights without his parents getting too upset.

Could anyone provide suggestions of where to go? Is Kingston worthwhile? Some where else? I've been looking at previous posts but most are relating to travel for a week or two.

There's some non-resort fun day trip stuff to do near Runaway Bay- Seville Great House, Hooves riding, Reggae Beach, a few waterfall type "parks". Run up the hill above St Ann for a meal and the view at High Hope Great House

You can day trip out to Firefly for the view, they're are a few black sand beaches nearby. My point is that you could keep the family happy by staying en casa, yet get away from the AI as much as you want during the day- which would require a car or a driver for at least some of the time

If I were"leaving the reservation" for 2 nights I'd head to the Port Antonio area- it's beautiful and lush and still stuck in a 1950s tourist mode- they're no large resorts anywhere. The choices are mostly smaller older boutique type hotels.

I second staying nearby for 2 days and doing as greenfieldhunter suggests ..or going to Port Antonio.

I second (third?) Port Antonio. Just two hours from Ochi on the new road....and easily the most beautiful part of Jamaica.
