| goetz16:55 UTC12 Oct 2015 | The beginning of my South Africa trip - a safari in Sabi Sands and two days in Jo'burg - and the end of it - sailing from Capetown and taking a trip to Hermanus are organized. Leaving Jo'burg on 4th November and arriving in Capetown on 8th Nov, I would love to use the remaining time to catch a glimpse on tribal culture. What I find in the guidebooks is Shakaland. Is it that I am preoccupied when I am afraid this is a Zulu Disneyland? Simunye sounds more authentic. Or is it better to look for a traditional village in Lesotho or in Swaziland? And is the only way to get there to rent a car? Or would I find an authentic village even near Jo'burg or Capetown? You who are familiar with South Africa - imagine you are from Germany and would love to see traditional village life, where would you go? And to make things more complicated, I cannot hike in these days because of a knee problem. So the best way would be a place accessible from an airport by bus, taxi, hired car if necessary. Thank you for your good advice!

Maseru-Roma_semonkong-Qacha´s Nek, villages, huts, horses. Great! OK with 2WD. Lesotho, authentic! Around Jburg, no. Much less around CT or in Western Cape. You find traditional villages in the Transkei, north of East London, Mandela´s land. Rural life, like before. Also in some places in Kwa Zulu Natal. We were in SA recently, independent low-cost travellers. Details of our trip on our blog... route, prices, accommodation... Safe trip!
