Where to catch a football (soccer) match?

Country forums / UK & Ireland / England

So I'll be in London on July 30th, 31th, and August 1st.

I know the Premiership is not in season during this time... but I would love to catch a football match while in London and get a taste of the excitement that the country has for the game.

Are there any minor leagues that play during this off-season? If so, where can I catch a match, get tickets, times, how much might it be, and what team should I see?

Thanks for all the help.

PS:
I'll be in Paris and Barcelona in early August as well, so if you know of any matches there too, that'd be great. THANKS!

leagues finish at the same(ish time) but its now pre season friendly time so you will in fact have more chance of seeing a game at a prem ground. theres a pre season friendly on at arsenal at the time your here. check the clubs websites for details. also have a look at the other big london clubs - tottenham, west ham, fulham, portsmouth

Paris Saint Germain will have their first match versus Sochaux in the
Parc des Princes, the season in France starts on 4th of august,
so you might be lucky in Paris at least.

Unfortunately you are one day too late for Arsenal v Inter Milan on the 29th.

You could watch Leyton Orient v Tottenham on August 1st, kick off would be around 7.45 pm and tickets maybe £10-15 but I'm not sure. You should be able to get tickets at the ground on the night but don't quote me on that.

Apart from that I don't really see any great options for you.

Sounds great. Had a friend tell me about Tottenham... It'd be great to catch a match. Just hope the stadium isn't flooded. How is London, by the way, with all this flooding I hear about? Thanks for everyone's help.

Go to the BBC website - www.bbc.co.uk and navigate your way through sport, football and then fixtures, you'll find just about any games that are happening listed in here.

The BBC football site has a page for premiership/league/Scottish/Welsh/Irish professional team in the UK and a link to thier own website if they have one so you'll be able to find out about tickets there as well.

It'll be a pre-season friendly so you should have a good chance of a ticket if there's a match on when you are in town.

The BBC site is mighty and powerful.
