| laura0000:50 UTC07 Jun 2007 | Hi, As part of a RWT I'm stopping in Nadi Fiji. Was thinking of spending about 10days in Fiji but this can be easily extended. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could suggest how long to stay in Fiji and what to do. I was thinking of exploring Nadi, Namatakula village, Suva and Yasawa islands but any other suggestions are welcome. Also I'm travelling solo - is it easy to meet other travellers? Thanks

If you do want to restrict yourself to 10 days or so, then skip Nadi and Yasawas, and go direct to Suva (much more interesting than Nadi) and on to Ovalau island -- assuming you want to have a closer look at Fijian culture. Also, for a compact island there's a lot to do and see on Ovalau. Hiking, a homestay, lagoon 'resorts' at Leleuvia and Caqalai for snorkeling or diving or just relaxing...
If you are content with a beach break then do a bit of reading up on the various Yasawa islands and resorts. There are big differences in what they offer. And Lautoka is more interesting than Nadi as a place to stay and explore.
Considering the time you currently budget, I'm not sure it's worth the bother to combine both Nadi and Suva.
Meeting 'travelers' -- I suppose it depends on what you mean by the word. Also, it also depends on your own personality. One thing's for sure, you'll be overwhelmed by Fijian hospitality -- which makes meeting travelers almost irrelevant. Curiously enough, I met quite a few RTW travellers on Fiji during my trip. I think a lot of people who buy a RTW ticket for a long term trip take advantage of it to slot in a stopover on Fiji. You'll probably find them to the east, away from Nadi and environs. They have the time to explore.
