We are arriving in Puerto Natelles via the Navimag ferry in mid January. What next? We have no backpacking gear so we would probably just do day hikes in Torres del Paine then work our way down to Punta Arenas. From there into Tierra del Fuego and on to Ushuaia. Any other suggestions with the limited time we have? (we are flying back home at the beginning of Feb.) What is your recommendation on how to make it back to Santiago so we can explore the Northern part of Chile? Flight from Ushuaia possible? Thanks for your help!
Some of the hostels there in Puerto Natales rent gear if you want to hike and camp in the park. I'm sure Casa Cecillia does. Many refugios in TDP have tents on the site for rent as well. Are you going over to Los Glaciares in Argentina?. This is the complementary park on the Argentina side and in my opinion is at least as beautiful as TDP. Both day/tour glacier trips from El Calafate and the dayhikes in El Chalten area are very popular. I don't know about a flight from Ushuaia. I would think you would need to do this from Punta Arenas as it would be a Chilean flight and should be cheaper as an in country flight even if there is a possible flight from Argentina. International flights in South America tend to be pricey. | 1
You could stay in refugio for two or three nights without doing the W. You stay at Mountain Paine Grande for 2 days so you have time to do day hike to Glacier Gray and Valley Frances. Refugio Chilenos it's only 2 hours away trekking from where you started in Las Torres. Or At Refugio in las Torres and you do hike to Torres del Paine.. better stay in the park even if you don't want to do the whole trekking by staying in the right refugio. My advice go to path@gone at Eberhart street ( is that right? ) you can see the path@gone on the wall .. you won't miss it. They are very helpfull... since you're going there on january.. you might want to contact them online right now!! Happy travelling.. | 2
If you want to fly back from Ushuaia to Santiago you can fly Ush - Buenos Aires - Santiago or Punta Arenas - Santiago. sometimes there are flights with LAN Ushuaia - Punta Arenas - Santiago. El Chalten and Calafate are very good options too. | 3
