Western Mongolia

Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia

I'm planning a return trip to Mongolia this June - western Mongolia specifically. The question is how to get there without getting hung up in UB? I'm booked to fly into UB and would like to fly onwards to the west - Olgii, or Khovd depending on what flights are available. But from what info I've seen internal flights are usuallly booked out well in advance. The airlines have web sites but there's no apparent or reliable way to book in advance. I've tried contacting the GH where I stayed last year, but no reply.
I'd like to hook up with a reliable translator plus driver out west rather than drive there from UB. I'd do that coming back.

Has anyone been there, done that and got the scoop?

For internal flights in Mongolia I suggest trying a Mongolian travel agency. I seriously doubt that these can be booked in advance online.

Hi, i have some good friends in Ub who maybe can help to reserve your tickets as yes it's truth TO buy all at the begining of the season, so why don't you try to contact in english mejet69@yahoo.com and tell about your idea and see if he can do something for you?

he will come also to pick you free when you arrive and lodge you in his small guest house and will drive you at airport, for return from Olgy as he has some friends there maybe he can also help to found you a jeep.. but the important is to try to have a fly ticket first

cost UB olgy around 230$ one way by aeromongolia

so just contact and see what's happen , this cost nothing!! have fun

I think it is difficult to find a translator in Olgii better arrange translator from city.
