Weather in January

Country forums / Africa / Madagascar

Hello, I'm planning to visit Madagascar for 3 weeks starting on 1st January. I know there is the rain season, but some places are more dry than other. Please advice me where is better to go and where not to go...

Are there some special events in January? Maybe some cultural festivals or something interesting in the animal world ...

Hi ,
January is rain season so i want not to recommand you go to the east as Andasibe , Pangalane ,St Marie it's too wet.
Why not to the north west as Mahajanga then Nosy Be extend your tour to the north as Diego Suarez .
Another option heading to the south , it's dry area so it's not much rain , follow the National road 7 visit the park and reserve then relax on the beach at Ifaty or Anakao.
January is not best time for the festival event but you could learn the southern culture if you want to head to the south , this tour is rich for the cultures and beatiful lansdcape, don't miss it.
Have good luck!!!!
Anne

Thank you, Anne! Do you think the west is also dry enough? I have an idea of going west - canoening at Tsiribihina river, visiting Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park and avenue des Baobabs then take a flight to Tuléar, relax at Ifaty or Anakao beach and then go north to Antananarivo with visiting Ranomafana National Park on the way. Is this itinerary good for three weeks in January?

Saralehoullier, thank you for the information! What about visiting Andasibe and Ranomafana National Parks? Maybe the animals are hiding in the rainy season, or it would be difficult to move around the park?
