Weather/climate in Sri Lanka October/November - please help me understand!

Ok so it looks like I've made a little mistake... I did a lot of research a couple of months ago and was playing around with various ideas - going to Sri Lanka for a month, going for six months, going there then travelling round Southeast Asia.... Etc etc. It seems in that mix I got it in my head that I could go to Sri Lanka anytime and the weather would be dry and sunny. I'm kind of joking, but I have booked flights for us to be in Sri Lanka for what appears to be the intermonsoon time, and seems fairly unsettled cross the country - October/ November, returning early December (though return is flexible)
So I've got two questions - what areas of the island are driest during these months?
And
What's the reality of this intermonsoon? I've been in india during monsoon and there was lots of sun between the rain. However, I was in cities at that point and not trying to have a beach holiday....!! But just wondering what it means for us. Should we hop over to Southeast Asia until later in the year? I'm travelling with my three year old so rain every day is going to be a little more difficult to manage.

Yes I've seen that site and countless others... What I've gleaned is that October/November is the worst time to be in Sri Lanka weather wise... But I am wondering where the best places are in terms of dryness....

Difficult to forecast 100% accurate but last year Nov/Dec we had lots of rain & it cleared up towards start of Jan .Inter monsoon starts late Oct rain can happen across the island any time.
Usually Nov/Dec are risky months.
