im aware of some of the ways into tibet the main ones i'm hearing from other travelers are...
1. to go GOLMUD, (dont buy permit) get on a bus to lhasa, hiding frm all the guards or whatever they call themselves.
2. go to chengdu, drive (expensive)
3. get a plane from chengdu 1750, expensive
can anyone give me any other ideas that are practical and cheap?
does anyone know where to buy permits that are very cheap, the tibet permit, for like 200- 250?
because if i can buy one, i will just buy a hard seater train ticket, and that would be easier than anything else

I think permits usually go for around 300 in Xining or Chengdu, and are sold with the train/plane tickets, but check in the FAQ.

| losang08:18 UTC22 Feb 2007 | From Chengdu a permit and hard sleeper train ticket is around Y1100. The cheapest Tibet permits are in Chengdu at around Y400 ro Y450 per person. In Xining they are around Y475 or Y500. You could also take a hard seat from Chengdu if you really want to go cheaply.
A bus ticket from Golmud without a permit is going to cost you around Y600.
