Watching football and Ceviche

Country forums / South America / Chile

It is our final few days in South America before we head off to New Zealand and have two important questions!

Firstly, our flight is out of Santiago at 11pm on Wednesday and we need to kill time waiting for our flight, we would quite like to watch the England v Croatia match which should be on about 4pm, does anyone know somewhere this will be shown? Pref quite near the airport or bus station and somewhere sort of safe as we will have our backpacks with us.

Secondly, since arriving in Peru 11 weeks ago my boyfriend has been going on about this dish Ceviche (dont think Ive spelt it right) - its the one with fish and lemon juice. Any suggestions where we can get a decent dish of this, either in Santiago or Vina Del Mar (we are here at the moment)

Any help would me greatly appreciated

thanks

Peruvian ceviche and Chilean ceviche are sort of different. I would suggest a Peruvian restaurant. Barandiaran on either Manuel Montt or in the Patio Bellavista between Pio Nono and Costitución does a good one. If you can, you should try a local style one in Viña too. Any of the restaurants out the road toward Con Con from Reñaca will have it.

If you want Pisco or Ceviche I'm afraid you are in the wrong country. You wouldn't go to McDonalds for a good steak, would you?

Santiago has great seafood but you won't get Peruvian ceviche there, unless you find a peruvian resto. Go to mercado central, where you'll finds lots of seafood restaurants.
For later hours, on the beach strip in Viña, there are three or four restuaurants serving the best seafood you can get. A bit pricey though.

There's a great Peruvian restaurant near the Plaza de Armas, on Santo Domingo, between San Antonio and Mac-Iver called Victoria. It's good and fairly reasonably priced. In reply to decree, there are plenty of places for good Peruvian food in Santiago, do you have any idea how many Peruvians there are here?

I eat a good ceviche in Caleta Portales in Valparaiso (a fishery beside the same train station)
