Warning: Reliable Car Rental is not reliable!

Reliable Car Rental is recommended in the LP Jordan, so I booked a car there for two days, pickup in Amman and dropoff in Aqaba for an extra fee of 35JD including free transfer to the israeli border. So far, so good.
The car had a flat tyre (which we noticed as we drove out of Amman Beach) and they tried to charge us 15JD for the transfer to the border!
Unfortunately the driver who drove us to the border couldn't speak any english, so we had to phone his office to make it clear that we won't pay that amount...
Next time I'll book my car at one of the bigger companies.

When you take receipt of any rental car you are obliged to check it thoroughly
(in any country) - had it have come with a flat tyre I'm sure you would have noticed that.

Also - in any country tyres aren't covered and if you have a puncture whilst driving then you have to pay that - the same with windscreens ! I found this out to my astonishment when I rented a car from Europcar in London recently - however, I didn't find out the hard way I
just asked lots of questions and that was in the small print.

Also any agreement you get when you pay should include such things like free transfer
to the border etc. You shouldn't have to have phoned the office the driver has a phone
and he should have called to confirm.

I know its difficult in a foreign country especially if they don't speak the same language.

This is a good lesson for everyone thinking of renting a car.

I'm feel sorry for what happened with you during your stay in Jordan. Even if Reliable Car Rental is recommended in the Lonely Planet Jordan, some mistakes might be happened. Sometimes no one can guarantee that he would get an excellent service even if you book with International car rentals companies.

From my experience, for what you paid 35 JOD in order to return the car at Aqaba is fair enough. The tyres are not covered, so you have to return the car as it is. On the other hand, do you think if you rent a car from bigger companies that would serve you?! I don't think so! you might pay more and more...Mesha had a good experience with Europcar in London (read above).

We have to be aware of everything...

We had a no problems with Reliable Car Rental when we used them 2 weeks ago. We were met at Queen Alia airport by their representative who took us to the car which we checked over (it was dark so used a little torch) and did the paperwork, no maps were provided but I bought one from a shop in the departures terminal for 3JOD. We were heading straight to the Dead Sea and the representative who was heading to Amman came with us to the Dead Sea turn-off where he was picked up by his wife.

The cars are returned empty of petrol so having him with us meant that we could easily stop at a petrol station and fill-up. Petrol is around 30 fils a litre or a 1/3 of the price in the UK. When we returned the car we were met by another representative who took the keys from us, checked the car quickly and that was it.

Would definitely recommend hiring a car as you are in control of where you want to go, and even with a tourist map that doesn't show all the roads it's easy enough to get around. Granted, not all the roads are signposted in English but a good sense of direction helps avoid going too far the wrong way and besides it's all part of the adventure!
