Want to Buy Sailboat in Central America

Country forums / Central America / Panama

Can anyone recommend a marina or port in Panama or other location in Central America that may be known as a good place to look for a used sailboat for sale. I am looking for a cat up to 38' or a monohull about 30-34'....

Thanks in advance
Gary

you might check the classifieds in thebocasbreeze.com which is an ex-pat newspaper from bocas del toro

This is NOT the forum to inquire about sailboats in this region, as nobody sails there or around. Check w Andiamo (Google) his name isTony, he operated out of Panama, but you need a sailing forum.

Nobody sails in Panama? Two oceans and a linking canal? I wish to explore the region over the next 2 years and want to explore both coasts and inland with a sailboat as my home base. But thanks anyway for your suggestion of Andiamo.

Central America does not have a lot of marinas a that are worth hanging out at, not to mention the weather conditions. The Caribe islands are more popular for a host of reasons. Panams is the exception, though winds and swells there limits many runs to Colombia, the main reason sailboats are in Panama for any length of time.

In the 7 years on the Central America TT forum, and hanging out in Costa Rica, there is little of any sailing post, inquiries or info on here, sorry, but they must use another forum/internet channel than LP- Though there is a Sailing TT I think.

Besides Tony (Andiamo), there have been NO Sailing or sailors hanging out on this forum in 7 years.

I dont know why he changed his handle from Andiamo to AndiamoTony on the LP TT, maybe he got banned for advertising, but here is a link to his website, he has been living in and around Central America on his boat and knows the ropes of your crowd from his post. You can also use the SEARCH function to read his previous post by doing a AUTHOR Search.

You might want to look at the Rio Dulce in Guatamala. Lots of boats there for better part of the huricane season and more. Allways boats for sale. Also a couple of good web sites are boat trader .com and yacht world .com. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi, here are some good places to check out boats:

  1. Bocas del Toro (always a couple of boats for sale, usually fairly junky)
  2. Rio Dulce, Guatemala (usually alot of boats for sale, not all good catches)
  3. La Ceiba, Honduras (sometimes there are some good boats for sale on the hard in the Shipyard)
  4. Cartagena, Colombia (usually quite a few boats for sale there, different kinds)
  5. Colon or Shelter Bay, Panama. Sometimes some good deals to be had.
  6. Portobelo, Panama. Usually the boats that go for sale here are because the captain finally hit the bottom of a bottle, the boats are almost always in decrepit condition, and virtually unseaworthy. But, then again, some good bargains can be had if you're savvy.

Hope this helps
