Wadi Rum self-drive and campCountry forums / Middle East / Jordan
Hi Guys - Is this possible? Anyone done it? I am a keen landscape photographer so want to spend a few days in Wadi Rum in search of great photos via a rental 4wd and all my camping gear. From some posts it appears as though it is ok to camp and guide yourself provided you pay the admission fee. Thoughts greatly appreciated - as are any tips on the most photogenic spots/times. Many thanks!
Yes, you can go anywhere you like provided it is within the area marked on the map as "open" and you stick to the trails and don't try dune driving. Photogenic areas are everywhere! One thing : the beautiful massifs tend to look the same unless you know them well, and it is easy to get lost. Just bear firmly in mind which way is north! If you are in trouble then you can't go wrong by driving north. Another thing which 90pct of people forget : don't forget to let plenty of air out of your tyres to drive on the sand. I couldn't count how many people I have seen "rescued" from soft sand. You can get air pumped in again when you get back from the desert, there's a place for this quite close to the entry to Rum Village from the south. | 1
Easy driving in Wadi Rum and plenty of spots. Send me a PM when you want to go. Might come with. Have fully equipped 4x4 and quite some photography gear. I can send you links to some panos as well if interested. | 2
