Volunteering with

Country forums / Africa / Tanzania

Hey all,

Looking to volunteer in Tanzania for 6 weeks over Christmas...
Best looking programme I've found describes itself as this:

Quote

Like other countries in Southern Africa, Tanzania has been very seriously affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. At least one in ten Tanzanians is HIV positive, and a growing number of young people are believed to be carrying the virus unknowingly. Volunteers will work to help provide education and counseling programs in and around Arusha. The activities will vary depending on the particular campaign, but most volunteers assist with counseling, education, home visitation, and report writing. Volunteers might also be asked to help with fundraising and awareness campaigns.

The company is Experiential Learning International (ELI)

Anybody had any experience with them?

Cheerio

I'm a little late in replying, but if you're interested in volunteering in the coastal area (specifically Bagamoyo), The Baobab Home might be happy to have you. It's run by US-born Terri Place and her husband, TZ-born Caito Mwandu. BH is a secular NGO/501c3 that just received licensing and first-year funding. In addition to the orphanage, they also offer several community outreach programs. They are wonderful people and their website is www.tzkids.org.

I'm one of her directors/trustees (so I'm a little biased!), and will be there Jan. 9th through Mar. 7th. Please contact me if you would like to know anything else.
