Volunteering Mongolia

Country forums / North-East Asia / Mongolia

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to go about doing 3 weeks volunteer work teaching english or business coaching in May this year in Mongolia.

From what i can see there are organisations that provide schemes which you can sign up for but require long time committments.

I would really appreciate any info as to how to go about geeting some interesting volunteer work - i am willing to organise my own lodging, food etc. I am thinking about approaching some of the NGO's when i get to see if there is a short term opportunity.

I have skills in business administration MBA and would really like to experience doing some teaching in mongolia.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve

Try Mercy Corps they have a few economic development projects.

Take into account that most NGO's do not take short term volunteers, It takes 2-3 weeks just to understand the background, the people, and the project. But give it a try they might have some short term assignment that could suit you.

The only exception is the summer camps for the orphanages, they do take short term volunteers (2-4 weeks), but they do not begin before July.

Keep the good spirit

Dan
