Visiting Floreana island

Country forums / South America / Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands

We are going to Galapagos this year on May 2nd to 9th 2015. Does anybody know if there is a boat from Santa Cruz to Floreana? We found 2 Hotels for the night but that was impossible to find the boat to reach the island.
Thank you

If I'm not mistaken the ferry from Santa Cruz to Floreana runs only once or twice a week.

I have heard that you can go with the daytrip boats, if there is space.

Thank you. I think that the only way to visit the Islands is paying lots of money in cruises, right?

Does Floreana really worth a visit? Because the only one hotel there is asking for a deposit in advance and apparently there is not a regular way to reach the island. We are looking for nice views, lots of wildlife, nature interaction, hiking a lot, snorkeling . Do you suggest another island?
Thank you for your help

I would stay a few days in Puerto Ayora (Isla Santa Cruz) and a few days in Puerto Villamil (Isla Isabela).

On Isabela you can take long walks on the lovely beach, rent a bike and cycle to Muro de Las Lagrimas, snorkel at Concha Pearla, take a tour to Volcan Sierra Negra and tours to Los Tunelles (including two snorkel sites) and to Las Tintoreras (including one snorkeling site). There are also lagoons with flamingos and a tortoise breeding centre in the outskirts of town.

In Puerto Ayora you can walk to Las Grietas, Tortuga Bay and to Charles Darwin Research Station. You can go to the highlands to see the giant tortoises and there are several day tours to other islands on offer.

Why not cristobal? The sea lions are the most abundant there and they have loads of walking paths around.

thank you Azbuceadora, Assahansen and special thanks for Snowflakes for your advice, thank you all very much. We are planning this: 2 first days in Ayora then boat to Floreana for 1 and half day, back to Ayora. Next day boat to Isabella then 2 days there, then flight (Emetebe) to San Cristobal, overnight there then flight to Guayaquil next day. Looks good, right?
