Visiting BangladeshCountry forums / Indian Subcontinent / Bangladesh
Hi there, Some friends and i will be visiting bangladesh in mid jan and i'm after some travel advice from locals or people who've been there before. Some of the places i've heard about and would like to see are Sundarbans, Chittagong (Hill tracts and ship breaking yards) Cox bazar and St Martin's island and of corse Dhaka. What are the other places i should try and get to? Also i've enquired about tours of the Sundarbans with some companies and they seem quite reasonable but the estimate that between 30-50 people will be on the tour which seems like a lot, is this standard? Thanks in advance!
Beside of ur selected places, yu can think to
Reg Sundarbans, I will recommend Bengal Tours or Guide Tours. Their size is usullly 15-30 persons (Depending on the boat). To get an Idea, you can Click Here If u need any more specific info, feel free to ask me. mahmud | 1
I agree with mahmud ..:D | 2
Hi Mahmud, I took a look at your website, it's really interesting. You seem like a great recourse for travelers wanting to get to know bangladesh. Could you give me a little more information on the home stays you arrange and also your experience with traveling in the Chittaong Hill Tracts (how best to get around and why you need permission). Thanks heaps, | 3
Depending on how much time you have got, you can visit Nijhum Deep as well. If you happen to plan on going to Barishal, you can try both the places together. And, Kuakata is another option... | 4
Home Stay : It means staying with a family in Dhaka for some days. The expenses almost same as Budget hotels in Dhaka. I know some families who has separate rooms for foreign guest. But they prefer couple/solo female traveler. Chittagong Hill Tract : One thing you have to understand that Chittagong Hill Tract (Rangamati/Bandarbans/Khagrachori) is restricted area for foreigners. Though it is easy to get permission to enter inside the city but you can not move alne to the hills or lakes. You have to take police protection (Free of cost) from local police station. So, you will not be able to gi remote areas. Even though, I will sugget you to go Chiitagong Hill Tract. If u need any more info, feel free to ask me. mahmud | 5
