visit Pakistan 12 days

Country forums / Indian Subcontinent / Pakistan

Hi everyone.

I am traveling on the 19th of sept to Islamabad and Lahore and crossing the Wagahborder to India.
Have a visa to visit Islamabad and Lahore.
Can anybody recommend what places to visit in and around Islamabad ,as well Lahore.
We are there for 12 days.
As well we love to visit Peshawar ,does anyone know if it is possible now to go there and to get a permit in Islamabad .?
Thanks .!!!

Bye for now,
Yokita

For Lahore, i can recommend couple of days itinerary:
First day, visit Badshai Mosque, Lahore Fort and Minar Pakistan. These are historical places and worth spending a day around, all are in the same vicinity. Later in the night, you can enjoy a Lahori style delicious meal at food street near Lahore fort; you gonna love the atmosphere around.

Second day, visit Lahore meuseum, anarkali bazaar ( for bit of shopping) and Shalamar garden ( a bit of history, built by Mughals)
Everyday at sun set, there is a flag ceremony at India Pakistan border in Wahga. On weekends it's jam pack and full of fun, do grab it if you got a chance.

Enjoy your trip.

No problem to visit Peshawar and no permit is required. If you want to get out of town for a day or two, I would recommend Nathiegalle, a beautiful and relatively unspoilt hill station about 4 hrs from Islamabad.
UB.

I would also recommend Nathiagali - which is part of the lush green cool mountains which Islamabad is a valley of. Half a day trip to Taxila is also highly recommended imo.

If you are into ancient civilisations, such as the Indus , you should visit Taxila, just 30 km from islamabad. The ruins are enticing and the museum a must (closed on mondays). Easy with a taxi, not expensive, but a hell by bus.
I wouldn't go to Peshawar. When I was in Pakistan in July I got reliable reports from people living there and I decided not to. The risk of being caught in a blast is still to high.

Enjoy your trip and consider going back for a trip to Hunza. Unforgettable experience.
