Visa to Madagascar - at the airport/upon arrival

Country forums / Africa / Madagascar

Some time ago, I spoke to the Embassy of Madagascar in Moscow regarding obtaining of visa at the international airport in Tana upon arrival. Their reply was: YES (in my case a citizen of country where there is no Madagascar Embassy/Consulate.)

With addition that 3 photos 3x4cm, approx. 118USD and of course a valid passport.

I asked this back in February. What is the current amount of USD (/EUR as I hope EUR is also accepted...)

Thank you,
J.

I got the visa free of cost !

Info as of July 6, 2008:
140K ariary (a moot point as there's no way you can change money airside) or EUR60 or USD90. (Yes, I know the embassy in Moscow charges you $118 and claims that's what you're going to pay at the airport anyway - scheming buggers) They do take euros but even the crew from my Air France flight preferred to pay in dollars as that gave one a slightly better exchange rate.

And frankly I don't remember giving them any photos

And they couldn't care less whether there's a Madagascar Embassy/Consulate in your country or city

Hope it helps

Thank you TaxDude. No wonder that the Embassy in RUSSIA in insane...

Wow! it has gone up a lot! It used to be much cheaper to get it at the airport in Tana than to get it at some embassy. I remember last year around september it cost me 13 euros.

Joam you can try get the visa in Mauritius instead of Russia. You'll go to Mauritius before heading to Mada isn't it !

Does anyone know if it's true that only 30-day visas are available at the airport? That's what it says in the current LP edition.

I'll stay for 5 weeks and would like to avoid the trip to the embassy. And just in case it matters: I'm a German citizen.

Thanks!

LP that I had was not accurate - it also mentioned one photo that is required... Paid 95USD (or 140,000MGA) and got visa for 13days - exactly matching my return ticket that I had to show to the immigration officer. You'll be alright with your five weeks.

I just called the embassy in NYC and they told me $120 dollars, even though on the application that you can get onilne (which was updated on October 8th, 2008) clearly statest the fee is $95, but you do have to mail your passport in, which concerns me.
