Vısa to Lebanon for USA cıtızen

Country forums / Middle East / Lebanon

Can American citizens with Syrian visa get a tourist visa to Lebanon at the border crossıng on the Damascus to Beirut road?

Yes, it is extremely easy, takes about 10 minutes to get a visa at the Masnaa border point (Damascus to Beirut). There is no visa fee as well, a 1 month visa is issued free. However, remember that Syria charges a 550 SYP ($11 or so) exit tax.

Visas weren't free there last time I was there (July). The two-week one wasn't very expensive, from memory, though the one-month one was a bit heftier.

How about a tourist visa to Lebanon for American citizens with Syrian visa on the Al Hamidiyah-Tripoli road?

We plan to go Turkey-Syria-Lebanon (enter on Al Hamidiyah-Tripoli Road) - Syria (enter on Beirut-Damascus Road) - Turkey.

@SPDL, I got mine free :) although the guard stamped my passport and literally threw it at my face, yikes! not sure why he was so pissed off... but then again the Lebanese are not know to be particularly friendly

I agree with SPDL and I keep being puzzled about reports written here. As an EU national, I regularly travel from Damascus to Beirut, or from Tartous to Tripoli, about 8 times over the past 18 months.

If your planned stay is for up to 48 hours, they will stamp your passport without visa fee and without a letter-type stamp. They will write a small note on the visa page about the 48 hours thing.

If you are travelling for more than 48 hours I always have to pay the 25,000 LBP paper stamp which will be glued into your passport and stamped accordingly, allowing you to enter for one month. Note that for airport arrivals there is no visa fee.

The question is about Americans getting visas not members of the EU or UK. Rules may be different for you. I just rechecked the Leb embassy in Washington and it says visas are issued free of charge to Americans at the airport and land borders.

@jacko18 - The website of the Lebanese General Security states it is free for US and EU citizens. Link This website is linked on the websites of the Lebanese diplomatic missions in the USA and UK. That is why I mentioned I was puzzled by the fact that I and several of my non-Syrian and non-Lebanese friends with EU passports (UK, Germany, France, Malta) always have to pay when entering through a land border.

Hmmm. Maybe a little cigarette money for the lads.
