Visa runs

Hi there

I am planning to be in china for 2 months. However the holiday visas are issued for 30days. Since I will be traveling in Yunan and tibet where l can l go to do a visa run?

China isn't Thailand. No visa runs to the border.

Most passport holders can get at least one and often two extensions from the PSB.

Extensions usually add the same amount of time for which the original visa was granted but they add that from the date when you apply. It is often reported on this forum that extensions are more easily and more quickly obtained in smaller towns than it big cities.

Of course, you realize that you failed to mention your passport. Cost and possibility of obtaining an extension will depend upon your passport.

Agree with Ruth. You will need to go to a PSB office in Yunnan (places like Kunming, Baoshan, Dali, Lijiang, etc) and apply for an extension. They are usually easy to get. Get your extension before you arrive in the Tibet Autonomous Region. In the TAR it can be very difficult to get a visa extension and if you do manage to get one, it usually is not for very long.

if you go via Hong Kong you can get a six month visa. There are agencys in the town and also two at the airport, I gave them my passport at 10am and had a 6 month visa by 5pm.

I applied recently for a Chinese visa and told them that I wanted to stay 35 days. When I picked up my visa I saw that they gave me a 60 day visa and they didn't charge anything extra for that.
So just tell them how long you want to stay and maybe you're lucky..

OP - If you don't already have your visa, it helps when applying to have some sort of itinerary showing your travel plans but do NOT include a trip to Tibet in your plans. Then request a visa for 60-90 days and sometimes but not always this request is granted. To some degree it may depend upon your passport and where you apply.
