Visa for Unpaid volunteer work.

Hi,
Re Wokaway and helpX volunteer work for food and accommodation, does one require a work permit or can it be done under tourist visa in Russia.
If work permit is required for such work does anyone know the requirements and specifics?
I am a British citizen and I do not have a full university degree which is normally required for skilled work permits.
