Visa exemption with British Overseas territory visa

Country forums / Mexico / Mexico

Hi,

I hold a visa for one of the british overseas territory.Do I need to apply for visa or should i bring fmm form.

Below is the wording from the mexican embassy site which talks about exemption on holding uk visa

With the purpose of facilitating and promoting travel to Mexico, effective May 2016 all those foreign nationals, regardless of their nationality, visiting Mexico for tourism, business or transit are NOT required to obtain a Mexican visa IF they hold a valid (non-expired) Visa or Permanent Residence of any of this countries: United States of America, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom or Schengen area (European Union).

As only you have your passport details, check documentation requirements for yourself here.

I'm suggesting that the Mexican person who wrote this up is using the word VISA to mean passport!
Unless you are a citizen of the above named countries or the EU, you will have to obtain a VISA to enter Mexico!

I found another website where a similar question was asked, and the answer was no, you don´t need a visa for Mexico to visit as a tourist if you have a valid visa for UK (but no distinction was made for overseas territory.)

4

No visa required but everyone entering Mexico must obtain an FMM ( tourist permit )........

5

IMO a visa for a British overseas territory is not the same as a UK visa.

6

Why not tell us the territory, but most of the territories decide who to give visas to, not the UK government, so I doubt very much that the Mexicans will consider it the equivalent of UK visa. The Mexicans have considerable problems with Indians trying to sneak into North America via Mexico.

I think they meant it exactly as written. A lot of countries let people who would normally require and probably not easily get a visa, in without a visa if they hold a valid visa from that same list of countries.

I strongly recommend you contact the Mexican consulate nearest you for definitive advice.

No, a transit visa for UK will not suffice.

Could you confirm if uk tourist visa will be fine to enter mexico with fmm?

You're asking for an interpretation of law/regulations ... a legal opinion with which you seem to want to rely upon. Why aren't you putting this question to the Consular Office / Embassy of Mexico closest to where you live or are currently? After all, it's not the well-meaning opinions of those of us here that are important. What's important is how the Mexican government defines its own regulations when you get-off the airplane.

I had already got in touch with them before posting a question here.I got the same wording as mentioned in my question. No clear cut answer.Infact they jjust replied to only one of the mails and then stopped reply after that.

15

But the answer you got is clear cut. Don't they say that a non-expired visa for the UK is acceptable ?

No its not clear cut.If we go by wording non expired TRANSIT visa should also be acceptable. But experienced memer says transit visa is not acceptable.Thats why I asked for tourist visa also

17

non expired TRANSIT visa should also be acceptable

No. The UK transit visa expires as soon as you leave UK.

No. The UK transit visa expires as soon as you leave UK.

Theres also a multiple entry UK transit visa which is valid for 6 months.

The clue is in the title, transit only.
