visa

Hi guys, i am thinking of going to iran in a week or so ( in pakistan just now) but as yet i dont have a visa, as its a last minute decision i have made. Now, i have heard many reports of people waiting months on getting a visa, i am british by the way, but i have also read that it would be possible to get this visa in about 2 days in islamabad, so, basically my question is, is it possible to obtain a visa for iran in a couple of days in islamabad, where i will be in a few days.

thanks guys
ian

Assuming the your passport is a British one and you are staying less than 7 days you can obtain a Visa at any International airport at your arrival, just showing a departing ticket and paying 50 USD, but this visa is only for 7 days and you cannot ask for an extension.

Hi Ian!
you are not entitled to get a visa on arrival if you have a British passport. rgds
try to get it in islamabad but it is not so easy being a British. but it is worth trying. Good luck!

You will probably need to go through an agency. This will take at least 2 weeks, probably more like four. Some people wait months. With agencies, you get what you pay for. I was recommened Magic Carpet Travel in the UK, who charge GBP120 or so (I think). I risked a cheaper agency, I won't mention them as they were wholly incompetent, but they got me a visa in the end. Being British, the risk with cheaper agencies is that you will be forced to join an expensive organised tour or be accompanied by a guide. Search this site and you will find many stories. Good Luck.

Hi Ian,
certainly the UK was removed from the list of countries to give a 7 day visa at the airport. check http://www.iranianvisa.com
Good luck

Hi,
i agree with #2, 3 and 4.
There is absolutely no way you could possibly get a visa for iran in 2 days or less. no questions about it. im sorry if i am being so direct and blunt but i dont want you to 'waste' your $80 or more on visa application fee that will get you nowhere. take care.bye.

Sorry for my little rant, but I think it's relevant to some readers (I copied it from my website).

The visa service “IranianVisa.com” promises wait times for visas ranging between 7 and 10 days. They don’t grant the visas, per se. Rather, they use contacts to prearrange authorization, then send you a code that you take to your chosen embassy or consulate for final approval. Granted, their conversion percentage for Canadian applications is low (41%) but they are quick to add “The results have been much bette [sic] for Canadians, recently.” Well, I applied for my visa on August 3, 2007. Now I’m told it should be in any day, probably Sunday. Yes, except that’s just the thing I’ve been told for months… and of course, everyone is closed Sunday. Did they really mean Monday? Or were they just deliberately wasting my time? I suspect the latter.

Of course, it might be prudent for me to stick around until Monday to see if the code arrives (Istanbul is the destination I chose to arrange the paperwork), but the code just isn’t coming. It’s not. I could try another service, but that means another lengthy and expensive application, then I’m back to waiting while winter approaches. No, I’m off to Ankara tomorrow. There, I’ll perhaps try again for the Iranian visa, but I’ll also begin the process for Syria… another guessing game and bureaucratic nightmare.

hi I am a UK passport holder & I am going to Iran but I will using an ozzi passport and applying directly through the more friendly embassy in canberra.
The powers that be have preferences for some nationals and some embassies are more helpful than others.I have a very Muslim name and look a bit Afghan/Persian/Pakistani which also helps!.

I know the deal in ISB and I say just forget it.You are wasting your time. You will have more luck going to Herat ( very persian ized) in NW Afghanistan and they will give a visa. Flights form ISB to Kabul and then onto Herat are easy to come by. Herat is relatively safe and was once the HQ of Timur's empire.
