visa and travelperiod

Hi,

Is it still possible to get visa (Dutch national) on the spot at Dushanbe airport without LOI or whatsoever?
Is March/April a good period to travel to Tad? Is it possible to drive to Khorog and Karakul? Is the Pamir highway open, including the high passes?

Hello, I am from Tajikistan and I live in Dushanbe.
Yes , its possible to get visa in Dushanbe aeroport. But if you are planning to visit Pamir you should get GBAO permit.
I think April /May is good period to drive to Khorog and Karakul. The high passes will open still end of Avril .

How can you get the gbao? How long does it take?

End of April the road is open you say, what about beginning of April?

GBAO permission you can get in OVIR in bit far from aeroport. You can get it during the day.
When you will travel to Karakul ? from Dushanbe to Khorog the road is open in 4 sesons, but from Khorog to Karakul it will open allredy beginning of Avril.

What about trekking in Fann or Pamirmountains in April? Doable or too cold, too much snow?

Re GBAO Permit can you please tell what is involved in getting this permit in Dushanbe things like cost etc. Do you need to register with OVIR to get it or with the on arrival Visa it is not required?

I want to be there end of July early August.
From what I gathered so far is that you can get the tourist visa on arrival (NZ passport) but not the permit. Also if you need to register with OVIR it is like $100 and then the small cost for the permit. In that case might as well get both before departure at the embassy?

If you will stay in Tajikistan more than 1 month , you should regitreted with OVIR .. For GBAO permit , you will have to apply for it later .. it will cost you around $5 if you do it yourself (going to government office, waiting for hours, ...) .. the travel agencies can prepare it for you.
