Vimy in September

Country forums / Western Europe / France

Hi All,
My Dad and his GF want to go to Paris in September. They also want to visit all things war related. He's 60 so I'm a little worried about his travelling. I've travelled quite a bit and he's asked me for some help in arranging this trip for him. He wants to be independant, but also wants me to arrange some things for him.
So I'm wondeing if anyone has any advice on how to arrange this trip for them. Can anyone reccommend a nice medium hostel, close to a subway stop, in Paris?
How accurate is the train schedual at seat61?
Any reccomendations on war memorials not to miss and places to stay there?

Thanks

If he can drive, it's by far the best way to see all of the war sites and battlefields. 60 is not old.

man in seat 61 is an excellent guide and friend, and kindly responds to queries.

I'm very surprised these days at anyone thinking a person of 60 - who has a GF! - is not to be considered autonomous, unless there are other health problems which could occur at any age.

Everything in Paris is reasonably close to a métro stop, with a very few exceptions. If you are in doubt check out the ratp.info (public transport - great neighbourhood plans for métros, buses and businesses and public services) or pagesjaunes.fr (yellow pages - lists all businesses and even private dwellings with photos, nearby métro stations and buses, services).

sometime 60 is not old...and sometimes it is.
My dad was born old. Trust me, he'll need help.

Is there a travel route within France that connects war memorial stuff? He'll have no issue in the city, but travelling thru the country to these memorails might be an issue. I'd like to have a route/map for him to follow.

And I always worry about all those young things rattling around Europe on their own.

If he's really unfit perhaps he could begin a fitness regime, but maybe Paris will be it's own fitness regime- you can walk everywhere.

Try some Canadian old soldiers organisations to get help about the sites he's interested in. There are groups who run tours but they're not always well organised. The further ahead you can get information the better.
