Victoria falls and Okavango from Johannesburg

Country forums / Africa / South Africa

Hi all!
I’m flying into Johannesburg this augoust and apart of 3 weeks travel in the country, I’m trying to make a 2 week visit –no time for a real trip- to Victoria falls, Okavango delta, mainly, and other spots near them.
I wonder if I should book a complete tour from joh or use public transport to get to the places and then book shorter tours locally, in order to balance enjoying and achieving some kind of budget prices.
Any recommendations, prices, tourist companies etc will be a big big help
Many thanks
Nikos

Hi Nikos, check out The Old Bridge in Maun for Okavango trips (www.actualrealityadventures.com) and Victoria Falls Backpackers in Vic Falls (www.victoriafallsbackpackers.com). They can both help you book tours locally.
Check out www.seat61.com for options on train transport from JHB to Zimbabwe. From Vic Falls to Maun the bus is the only option (probably via Francistown in Botswana).

Have a good time!

thanks a lot sapster!
cost-wise, do you think that renting a car and going on our own (2 persons) would cost near the range of a company organized tour price with similar accomodation? (preferably budget category)
then, going around in the parks is easy and there is always availvability, or have to book in advance? (augoust)
many thanks
