Vegeterian Paella in BarcelonaCountry forums / Western Europe / Spain
Not easy finding recommendations about this specifically - really want to see what paella is all about, but don't eat meat/fish. Has anyone had a rich veggie paella who put a fight against the "regular" ones, but not very expensive either? Thanks!
As ever - yelp is good for these questions: https://www.yelp.com.au/search?find_desc=Vegetarian+Paella&find_loc=Barcelona | 1
vegetarian paella is paella de verduras it is not uncommon, many restaurants that sell paella also sell paella de verduras this has been my observation. | 2
paella is very easy to find in vegetarian versions as noted above in more traditional restuarants in Catalunya you might find it is called Arroz de Verduras, which is still a type of Paella but the "catalan version" | 3
I understand it exists, but I couldn't find many specific places that were tried and recommended. From my experience as a vegetarian, sometimes dishes originally with meat get veggified (haha) just so there's an option for someone vegetarian at the table, but not as rich and planned. So, I really meant specific places where it's been tried and liked. Only if someone did, of course.. | 4
That's why I offered the yelp link - that's where people try thing and like them (or not). | 5
But do check whether there is no meat stock in it. | 6
I'll check it out again, thanks | 7
I'm surprised they're allowed to call this paella. The Spaniards I know call anything that doesn't conform to their grandmother's paella recipe "mixed rice". | 8
Yeah well ... food nazis are everywhere, in every "culture", and a bit tedious mostly. | 9
Of course, there is no such thing as a vegetarian paella. But restaurants have to give names to foods to sell them... so if you can sell more rice mixed with vegetables by calling them "vegetarian paella", you call it vegetarian paella. | 10
