Urgent Question! overstaying 1 day in France

Interest forums / The Long Haul - Living & Working Abroad

Hello everyone,

I hope somebody could help me with my situation. I'm currently stressing out on the fact that I made a huge error on buying my ticket 1 day later than my visa expiration. I have a french student visa valid until july 7th. Problem is I booked my flight back to the philippines on the 8th! Do you guys think it's going to be a problem if I would be 1 day late on my visa?

I went to the prefecture and they told me it's not possible for them to extend my visa since I wasnt given a carte de sejour. I don't know anymore how to fix my problem and I was considering just making a go for it hoping they wouldn't notice me being a day late.

Has anybody had the same experience, and if so, what did you guys do?

I really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

Ask on the France branch. Ask your embassy about fines for overstaying. Check with the airlines about changing your flight to a day earlier. What would it cost? Is the fine likely to be more or less?

Good luck and report back.

No one here can tell you what will happen, they can only speculate the same as you can. I'd say you need to talk to French Immigration and explain the situation.

Do not take advice on this here. If one person writes, 'don't worry about it' and that is what you want to hear, then that is all you will hear.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your replies.

I decided to just make a go for it and it worked. Immigration didn't notice my visa being 1 day late (the officer didn't even bother looking at it really). I just don't know if I would have trouble renewing my visa later on. That's something to worry about later on but for now I'm happy to get home with zero trouble.

Again thanks for your advices :)

Cheers!
