Unawatuna vs Mirissa

Hey was wondering which one is the better option when it comes to the quality of beach and night life? should i crash in Mirissa and take a moped to Unawatuna or vice versa? or Split my time between the two ( got 5 days left after a teaching program)

Hi, I am an expat Sri Lankan who now lives in Melbourne (for past 46 years), currently holidaying in Sri Lanka. Have been to Unawatuna a number of times and find it to be a wonderful beach with lots of tourist accomodation nearby the beach. Cannot comment on nightlife however would not suspect much happens unless you are in a big tourist hotel. Have not visited Mirissa but have heard good reports. Enjoy your holiday...Neil

Both beaches are great, the water is beautiful clear. But I think the nightlife in Mirissa is better. At night you have a lot of restaurants and pubs where you can literally put your feet in the water while enjoying your beers. They all put on white candles on the tables, such a nice view! Also there are more active pubs which dance music.
