Uganda 20 day itinerary with public transpoCountry forums / Africa / Uganda
We're trying to see primates and unique wildlife in 20 days -- our typical US vacation length =(. Almost all of this would be travelled by public transportation (except for the Bwindi/gorillas portion, from Lake Bunyonyi). Can you let me know if this seems feasible, or what you might adjust? Day 1: depart Calif. USA 2: arrive Entebbe 6: Fort Portal 10: Lake Bunyonyi (tour agency takes us to to Bwindi) 14: Kisoro to Mgahinga/Golden Monkey trek 16: Lake Mburo (need 2 days to work out the details for 1 day in the park. 18: Mbarara to Entebbe 20: Depart Entebbe for California Any advice would be helpful. Thanks for your help!
One of the sources of the nile! Very rushed cut out Jinja from plan You might need to book gorilla /monkey and chimp trecks in advance | 1
I agree, the place advertised as the source of the Nile at Jinja just looks like any old bit of river, nothing special - plus they were charging 10000Ush pp to go near it (in 2012). If you stay in Kisoro you'll have to be up at the crack of dawn to get up the hill (horrible road) to Mgahinga in time for the Golden Monkey tracking. Better to stay in one of the bandas at the Community Camp which is right outside the park gates. We stayed there last year, it's a friendly place and the food is good. | 2
Thanks for this feedback on possible itinerary. I think we'll have to skip Jinja and save more money for some beer! ;-) Thanks too for the tips about getting from Fort Portal to Lake Bunyonyi and about staying at the bandas at Community Camp the night before trekking to see the golden monkeys in Mgahinga National Park. | 3
If you had more time in Kisoro, you could try canoe trekking at lake mutanda - an incredibly beautiful place to visit. May be instead of going back to lake bunyonyi after the gorilla trek, you could go to kisoro direct. however this would be a good option if your trek will be in the southern sector of Bwindi. | 4
Jinja - for rafting - it's not for the timid, but a real experience and with an uncertain future, so make the most of it while it's here - went with Nalubale - a serious bunch. You'll be jetlagged, but this will shake it off - may be able to arrange transfer from airport with them, then in the afternoon to Kampala, according to flight arrival time. otherwise, to go out there just for the Speke monument... | 5
Yet again your itinerary is alright and it is doable but change; 2: arrive Entebbe Mbarara to Entebbe (you don't have to go to mbarara 34kms back from lake mburo. You can get a lift or organize one to bring you to lyatonde town if like or wait at the road side at kagate and you will catch a bus there. When you get Kampala you could walk to the taxi park which is 300meters from Namirembe road to the old taxi park and catch a coast bus to Jinja so you can do jinja the next day 19th and depart Jinja or the 20th early for Kampala and Entebbe) | 6
