Turkey with a toddler -?stroller

Interest forums / Kids To Go

Hi all - we are travelling for 2 1/2 weeks in turkey with our 2 year old daughter at the end of April/beginning of May and trying to decide what carrying system to bring.

We just arrived home from Arizona and wished we brought our stroller - she was really unhappy in the backpack carriers we had - a Phil and teds escape and a beco both of which she used to love.

She loves the jogging stroller but a)it is kind of bulky and b)just not sure if it is useful in Turkey or even would be a hindrance.. So I thought I'd ask advice of those in the know. We've never taken a stroller on any of our travels other than an umbrella stroller - but is suspect it wouldn't be useful on the cobblestone of Sultanamet. We are also travelling to Cirali, Cappadocia and Bursa. We will have vehicle transport and are flying so probably could swing the stroller - but don't want to lug it around if it isn't useful.

That said, she IS two and who knows what she'll be screaming about in two months! However, what are your thoughts on strollers in Turkey?

Oh - and any thoughts on car seats on Turkish Airlines (from Frankfurt) ? it is way easier for her to sleep in one now that she has her own seat.

Thanks.

We traveller to Turkey five years ago, when our twins were 1.5 years old. We took our double stroller and found that we spent lots of time carrying it (with the kids in it) up and down stairs. I would suggest a lightweight umbrella stroller (maybe with a sunshade) and/or a backpack carrier.

Bring a stroller so you can enjoy long days out and about. Car seat may be cumbersome and not sure where you will be able to use it. If you really need one, buy one there. Turkish people love children and will be kind to you at every turn. They don't hesitate to lend a helping hand with strollers everywhere you go.

We went to Turkey right before we had our son who is now almost 2.

Thinking about the landscape of Cappadoccia and all the hills in Istanbul (the street we stayed on had a funicular to get up and down because the incline was so steep), I have mixed feelings on the stroller....

That said, we've traveled with him to a bunch of countries in the past couple years (Mexico, Greece, Italy, Spain, Japan) and we ALWAYS bring an umbrella stroller. It comes in handy when your child needs to nap (assuming yours reclines), the sun shade protects their baby skin.

I would say bring an umbrella stroller (bette rto have it than to not) and just leave it in your hotel room on days when it seems like more of a pain that it's worth (we use the Uppa baby gluxe. (We had a mcclaren volo at first but it didnt recline, and when he fell asleep, his head would bob forward - not good.)

Hi,

I would definitely take a reclining stroller and consider buying a parasol too. I took my then three year old two years ago and it was a God send. Whether they want to escape the heat, are feeling tired/sleepy or just want some down time, a stroller is perfect. My daughter used the parasol to hide behind when she was feeling a little overwhelmed with her new surroundings.

I've travelled both with and without a stroller, taking one along makes for a much calmer, less grizzly trip.

Hope this helps,

Amy
