Tulum -> Livingston

Country forums / Central America / Guatemala

Dear all,
would like to go from Tulum or Chetumal to Livingston. Is there a boat or an easy way without entering Beliz?
Thanks for your help

I haven't heard of any regular boats on that route. You would have to charter a boat -- easy but expensive.

Not that I'm aware of. How much time do you have to get to Livingston?
Your looking at 1-2 nights for this trip, a couple ways to do a cool trip, would need 4-5 days though.

2

No, there is no boat. You would need to bus to Belize City and then on to Punta Gorda, where you can get water taxis to Livingston or Puerto Barrios. Alternatively, you could bus to Flores (also via Belize City, but there are direct buses there from Chetumal) and then continue on to Rio Dulce, then take a water taxi through the gorge to Livingston.

3

The other one would be Palenque- Tikal- Rio Dulce- Livingston, probably a more interesting trip, depending what you're into. Any particular reason for wanting to dodge Belize?

4

I got to Livingston by flying to Guat city fromCancun and catching a bus there to Puerto Barrios and the a boat there to Livingston. Interesting funky place. Photos on wolf calls, com

avoid to pay the entryfee 8-);

Dear all, thank you so much for your replies! As I have only 35 days for my trip 8-)), and like to have as much as possible including time for snorkeling and may be one ore two beers at the beach, dont like to waiste time.
As I leave on the 7.12.2016 I have to bear in mind that the 24.12. as well as the 31.12. is included, and the smaler Hotels / hostels are quite full at this time.
It looks like, that I will be on 24.12. in Celestún, and 31.12. in Livingston or Tulum, and like to make a reservation for this periode in advance.
What would you recommend to stay for 31.12.?

Places I like to visit:
Antigua
Atilan – San Pedro
Chichicastenango
Coban
Laquin - Semuc Champey
Tikal
Palenque
Celestún
Merida
Tulum
Rio Dulce
Livingston
Quiriguá
Copán – Honduras
Monterico
Guatemala at 11:00 am

What do you think? Is it possible, or more or less a nightmar ;-)

Thank you so much for your help.

Christmas time means higher prices and required stays. Also if you do go thru Belize you will be hit up for a Mexican exit fee which is illegal and huge fees to exit Belize. Not to mention Entry fee. All of Mexico goes to the beach at christmas time so be ready as some places sold out already I have been told. No one heads to Europe anymore so huge amounts of folks from all over now going to Mexico and points south in Central and South America..

8

Omg, that sounds horrible. Come to Europe! Please!
Thanks a lot For your help!

9

huge fees to exit Belize.

It's $20, and goes towards archaeological conservation.

10

Where do you fly into and out of? Dates of flight please.
Thinks it's only $10us bucks to cross into Belize overland.
Yes, way to much on your list to see, be easy to narrow down.
What are your main interests for this trip?

11

aslukas, is that Belizean or US bucks.
My bad, Belize charges you to leave not to enter, funny country

Re: Belize...
Departure fee at land border: BZ$30
PACT Fee: BZ$7.50
And now there's a new fee of BZ$2.50 for border improvement or something like that.
Total: BZ$40 or US$20

13

If you enter Mexico at a land border, you shouldn't have to pay anything upon entry. And there's no departure/exit fee/tax.

There is a tourist fee/tax which you must pay before you leave Mexico. Sometimes I've paid it at a bank. If you plan to leave Mexico at a land border, the easiest thing to do is pay it at the border. I've always paid the fee in pesos -- it works out to be equivalent of about US$24. If your stay in Mexico is 7 days or less, you do not need to pay the fee -- you might need to leave Mexico at the same point where you entered.

Dear all, will arrive in Guatemala City on the 08.12. Honig directly to Antigua (hopefully) and depart on 12.01. from Guatemala City.
Like to avoid to go to a City again, but it seems, that I have to go to Flores after my trip to Mexiko.
Thank you sooo much for trying to help me!
Kind regards

Why Mexico?
Stick with Guatemala, at least the majority of it. You do fly in-out....

Still haven't said what you want to see and do? You have about a month, 30 days?
Do you want to hike, surf, dive-snorkel, explore ruins, drink etc?

I am travelling Alone and speak a bit spanisch.

Guess your a chick using terms like dear.

Maybe something like:
2 Nights- Antigua
5 N - Lake Atitlan - Both have a bunch of cheap volcano hikes.
4 N- Copan Honduras
3 N - Tikal, stay in the park.
2 N - San Ignacio, yes it's Belize, oh well. do the ATM cave trip, awesome.
3 N - Caye Cauker - killer snorkeling and cheap, good drinks too!
2 N - http://raggamuffintours.com/ Your sail trip including lots of other stuff like shells on a beach and many drinks.
1 N - Punta Gorda
1-2 N - Livingston
2-3 N - River Lodge - http://www.hotelitoperdido.com/main.php?page=activities& or http://fincatatin.com/Code/HTML/English/en_welcome.html

Easy paddle to hot springs from the river lodges.

It's only one option.
28 nights, easy from Rio Dulce to Guatemala City and Antigua, about 5- hours.
Easy to meet lots of other travelers.

Could after Tikal/Flores go north to Palenque then over to San Cristobal de las Casas and back down to Guatemala but you'll get more variety the other way.
