| 3dlen01:58 UTC28 May 2007 | It is a very nice plan. But there is no train from Banff to Jasper.
You must realize that people in Canada do not normally travel by train. It is an expensive option that is usually done by tourists who have time, or people who are going a long distance, have money, and do not have a car. Train travel in Canada is not the same as train travel in Europe. And much of the train ride through the Rockies is at night.
Are you unable to rent a car? A car would be the best way to see Kamloops, Banff, and Jasper.
If you are on a tight budget, then a bus is the next best way to travel in this area.

| cartmanmacduff02:48 UTC28 May 2007 | Travelling by car is the only way to get from banff to Jasper, I used to live in lake Louise. You can take the greyhound bus but the trip would take hours. It is roughly 400 kms distance from banff to jasper and one of the most beautiful drives in the world. trust me ,rent a car and hit the road, you'll see more wildlife. Rent the car in Calgary if possible, banff has only one or two rental agencies and they are overpriced.

None of the train ride through the Rockies is at night, except partially in the dead of winter in one direction (westbound I think). Why do people keep saying this?

In the parts of Canada where most people live (Ontario, Quebec) lots of people use the trains. But in the West, the trains are just for tourists.

| pikicasunshine14:36 UTC28 May 2007 | Hello!
Thanks for the answers.. I have heard for rent a car that is the best, but we have one problem, we are both under 25 and i heard that it is a lot to pay for extra insurance (and that is quite expensive-i don't know exactly how much..) if you want to rent the car.. And I didn't think we would travel with train from Banff to Jasper, I thought we are taking bus... And then take train from Jasper to Prince George and then to Prince Rupert..
I have another question: what is worth to see on the way from Okanagan valley to Banff? Revelstoke, Goleden, Yoho National park? Anything else?
Thanks for your time and answers..

| 3dlen23:09 UTC28 May 2007 | Mangos, Thanks for the clarification about the night train.
Pikica, you really should check with some rental car companies. In my opinion it would be worth the extra costs to have a car. If you are on the bus, you can not just stop at interesting sights whenever you want. And some of the best things to see in the mountains are not at bus stations, but in places where there is nothing except a pull-out on the road.
Some suggestions for car rentals: Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Budget, Thrifty, National, Enterprise.
If you look at the costs for 2 people on buses and trains, it may even be cheaper to rent a car.

| sandyfootprints18:00 UTC02 Jun 2007 | I caught the train from Vancouver to Jasper in November last year. The journey was overnight. We had major delays, so we did actually get to see a fair bit of the Rockies in the morning, and the scenery was out of this world :o)

| borisphotosafari15:13 UTC04 Jun 2007 | There is a bus suttle that you can take between hostels in Banff and Jasper. I can remember the name. But that is the cheapest way
