Travelling with kids in Venezuela?Country forums / South America / Venezuela
Hi there! We are a family with 3 kids, aged 5, 7, 9, and we are planning to visit friends in Caracas this summer. We would also like to have about a week travelling elsewhere in the country, but will have to do this without our friends as they have work commitments. We don't really want to go to Margarita (too touristy - we're not a very touristy family) and were wondering where else on the coast would be good - or is it better to go to Merida and the surrounding area? We're not afraid of slumming it - we backpacked round Guatemala with the kids in 2005 when they were 16 months, 3 and 5. Any advice welcome, thanks a lot!
Hello I just returned from Caracas after seeing my Partner who lives there. I met a tour Guide Luisa and took a visit around the city with her using the Carritos. Its strange to be European 5ft 11 and blond hair really catches the eyes of the population. However Luisa is a great guide and knows exactly where not to go at any moment for your personnal safety. This was my second visit to Caracas and had no problems and got a great exchange on my Euros 7.2 all done within the hotel If you would like the services of Luisa email me at kimbatu@hotmail.com and I will forward her details to you. She is very competant and speaks perfect english. Have a safe trip Regards Rob | 1
Hello Tittmars, There are certainly some activities the kids woul definitely enjoy not only in Caracas but all over the country. For example in Caracas I'm sure they would enjoy the Cable Car "Teleferico" that goes up to the Humboldt Peak on the Avila Mountain, the mountain which divides the city from the Caribbean Sea. You could also go to the parque del Este in the East of Caracas, close to Altamira, to see the monkeys, otters, capybaras and their serpentarium. You may want to consider visiting Los Roques or other beaches which I'm sure the kids would enjoy thoroughly. Try to avoid those beaches with strong currents and venture to more calm and relaxed waters such as Morrocoy National Park, Los Roques or some beaches in Margarita. The latter is also a great option for kids as they have plenty of attractions such as a water park, a place the kids love. Try to avoid long weekends and holidays as the water park gets crowded. Travel safe! All the best, Thomas | 2
Hello Tittmars, I was in Venezuela in october 2008 with my wife and two children 6 and 9 years old. Our trip was like this. We arrived in Caracas and the day after we flew to Ciudad Bolivar. We stayed at La Casita. From there we took a 3 days tour to Angel Falls. It was no problem for the children and they like it wery much. 2 days rest at La Casita. 5 days tour to Rio Caura. This is a hard tour for the children. The treeking to the waterfall took us about 8 hours. It's a great tour but you need strong children if you want to do this. I don't recommend it with a five years old child. After this we went by bus to Mochima this was a good place to stay and the snorkeling was OK. Our last stop was at Los Roques. It was OK but I think Mochima is better with children. If you want more information send me a PM. | 3
