Travelling Jordan in RamadanCountry forums / Middle East / Jordan
Im considering cruising into Jordan from Sinai in July. If my information is correct, the holy month of Ramadan begins with the 20th. How much does Ramadan affect travelling in the country? I'd like to enter in Aqaba, see Petra and perhaps see the capital. If the time permits, I might spent a day in Wadi rum and then return to Sinai with a ferry from Aqaba. I have a good experience with Azerbaijan, where Ramadan didnt really affect my itinerary or dining, but I know that some countries in the middle east pretty much close down in this period. What should I expect? Another thing - is the itinerary mentioned above doable comfortably in a week or would it be completly rushed/not possible? Thanks.
I can't comment on the Ramadan question. A week is plenty of time to see Petra, Amman and then spend a night in Wadi Rum. While it's strictly a matter of personal opinion, I actually prefer Madaba to Amman. Madaba is only about thirty minutes away from Amman and a better base or seeing Mt. Nebo and driving the King's Highway. Amman though is closer to Jerash if you'd like to see that. Good luck. | 1
No problems during Ramadan, although the liquor stores will remain closed. AFAIK the one in Tala Bay (Aqaba) remains open. | 2
Actually in Ramadan the whole country is turned upside down from normal pattern. | 3
