Travelling from Thailand to Bali?

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

Hey there,
what possibilities do I have to get from Thailand to Jakarta or anywhere in Java or even Bali?
thanks
x

You can swim? Or maybe put yourself on a raft? Or try riding on a dolphin, and hope it knows where Bali is? Maybe stand on a road in central Bangkok with a big sign saying "Bali", and flash your thumb at every driver who goes past?

Ah right. We're in 2018 already. You can take a plane, right? How are you going to get to Thailand in the first place? Try that... Unless you're walking there of course. That won't work too well once you hit Singapore.

I like the dolphin idea Giora ;-).

2

If you dont like the dolphins you could fly Air asia straight to Bali. Or jakarta. No problemo.

3

ok, i thought about public transport instead of flying?
maybe flying to KL and then going by ferry or bus ?
I have three weeks for my journey and want to spend 2 weeks in Java + Bali.

I dont think that there are any ferries from KL or Singapore to Java or Bali. If you have 3 weeks for your journey (I assume that is excluding the time you want to spend in Thailand)?, I would travel overland from Thailand to Singapore or KL and stop on the way. Where depends on your interests and when you will be traveling. Personally, my favorite place on Peninsular Malaysia is Penang, which is amazing for food, history, culture and atmosphere. And then fly from KL or Singapore to Yogyakarta or Denpasar. Note that 2 weeks for Bali and a part of Java is not a lot.

okay! thanks for your great input nathalie!

You can travel from Singapore to the Indonesian island of Batam by boat (many boats every day), and then from Batam to Jakarta by boat (once a week). I would only suggest this if you have a very particular interest in seeing what a long-distance Indonesian ferry is like.

Otherwise, just fly. Lots of cheap flights from both Thailand and Malaysia to Java and Bali.

It would be easier (and perhaps more interesting) to do Thailand-Kuala Lumpur overland.

7

No part of peninsula Malaysia is connected to any part of Indonesia by land so forget the bus. Air Asia is the least hassle if you are short on time.

8

Another idea is to go to Melaka in Malaysia and take the ferry to Dumai and then take buses to western Sumatra and spend your 3 weeks there and forget about Bali and Java. Or maybe you could get budget priced flight to Padang.

I'm even not sure how to plan my trip cause there are only three weeks and it's not a lot.
you guys help me a lot! thanks! x

Or try riding on a dolphin, and hope it knows where Bali is?

And how much does the dolphin charge for a ticket Giora?

11

No charge for a ticket, but you don't get any compensation if you end up in Sakhalin instead of Bali.
